Christmas! It’s right ahead and we’re ready with plenty of ho-ho-ho at E. H. Prior. We’ve been taking Christmas orders since November, and our turkeys are almost ready to arrive from Godwick’s Norfolk farm.
We’re often asked what makes the difference in ordering one of their Bronze or Norfolk Black turkeys. The answer lies in the way the birds are grown, dry-plucked by hand and hung for 14 days for maximum flavour. These truly are free range birds, and while the supermarkets might claim their turkeys are farmed this way, the difference in a bird raised in limited quantities as opposed to massive numbers can be tasted in every mouthful of these succulent birds.
Add some of our famous pigs in blankets and pick up some locally grown vegetables (well it wouldn’t be the same without a stem of sprouts) and you’re set for a fabulous meal. It’s not too late to place your order, so make sure you don’t miss out on the real taste of Christmas.
We’ve also introduced a new range of Christmas hampers this year which feature a range of meats that mean that you’re ready to put something fabulous in the oven when you’ve got friends and family visiting over the holiday season. Pick up one of our Christmas brochures in store for full details.
Now, when it comes to using up Christmas ingredients, I’ve tried most of the usual recipes – turkey curry, turkey noodle soup and turkey pie are all good – but a new one I’m adding to the list this year is a Christmas burger.
As you might suspect, it comes from the US – first fry a slice or patty of stuffing until crisp, then add to a bread roll with sliced turkey, cranberry sauce and salad. Well, it’s a fresh spin on turkey sandwiches, so why not surprise your relatives on Boxing Day?
All that it leaves is for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas from E. H. Prior – thank you for your custom in 2017 and we look forward to wishing you a Happy New Year in 2018!
